Suomenlinna Money Lab
The concept is to create a complementary currency for Suomenlinna , designed for everyday use by local people and visitors, which will add cultural & economic value to Suomenlinna. The creative project will maintain the history of the island as well as representing the diversity of Suomenlinna as a living island. The project has been initiated by the artist Christian Nold, the curator Susanne Jaschko and the Finnish cultural organisation Pixelache.
The project will be run by a steering group of local inhabitants who will decide how the profits from the project will be used for the benefit of the island. We are organising workshops and brainstorming sessions to discuss how money is currently functioning on Suomenlinna and how a local currency can improve local social, cultural and economic contact and exchange. The project is run in an open and participatory context, so anyone is free to join in and help direct the research. The plan is to launch a functioning complimentary currency for Suomenlinna in mid 2012.
