ADC in 2012:

Soon! The ADC MANIFESTO: DO FIRST, DESIGN LATER * THINGS THAT YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO SAY OR DO * RE-IMAGINE THE PRESENT

Sat 28 January: In ADC Gathering #1, 9 different ADC projects were introduced by their initiators. RESULT: Many new collaborations between ADC projects.


ADC in 2011:

Wed 14 December: ADC website opens. The website contains a blog posting titled ‘What is the essence of ADC‘. ADC is about OPENNESS * RELATIONSHIPS * ACTIVE ISSUES * CITY/CITIZENS.

Wed 14 December: Fablab City Helsinki meeting @ Oranssi, Suvilahti. An introduction of several new maker culture / crafts / digital fabrication initiatives in Helsinki. RESULT: The idea of establishing a Helsinki version of ‘Maker Faire’ becomes more concrete, new collaborations emerge.

Mon 7 Nov: MTV3 Seitsemän Uutiset at 18:40-20:50. A temporary truce between ADC and WDC. Both initiatives have many similar goals but the approach is different.

Wed 19 Oct: The second ADC meeting at HUB Helsinki. RESULT: ADC is about building relationships (or building connections).

Mon 26 Sept: The first meeting at Oranssi, Suvilahti. RESULT: The name of the initiative is chosen to be Alternative Design Capital 2012.

Thur 15 Sept: The Googledoc becomes overloaded, planning continues on a wiki page

Mon 12 Sept: A Googledoc for gathering ideas for Alt-WDC is created. Anyone can edit the document and pass the address further.

Sun 4 September 2011: Helsingin Sanomat features a full-page story on the WDC critique, the idea of a shadow/fringe event for WDC is mentioned in the article

Tue 30 August 2011: ‘Helsinki WDC and the misunderstood openness‘ – a critical blog posting about the Helsinki WDC 2012 initiative

June 2011: A meeting about a shadow/fringe event for Helsinki WDC takes place during DMY Berlin including some of the participants of Open Helsinki programme of DMY MakerLab

Spring 2011: Various informal discussions about the need for a shadow/fringe event for Helsinki World Design Capital
